Championship Squares!

Howdy one more time, folks!

All good things must come to an end, and so must our biggest and most exciting tournament squares game ever. And my goodness, have we got a spectacular pair of championship games lined up for you over the next couple of days.

Women's Championship - Sunday, 12:30 Pacific / 3:30 Eastern: South Carolina (1) vs. UCLA (1)
South Carolina just did what nobody thought was possible — held UConn to their lowest point total of the season and ended their legendary winning streak with a defensive performance for the ages. Dawn Staley's program is in the national championship game for the fourth time in five years, and they're playing the best defense anyone has seen all season. UCLA got here the hard way too, holding Texas — a team that had been blowing out opponents all tournament — to just 44 points in the most defensively suffocating Final Four game in recent memory. Lauren Betts sealed it with a block in the final seconds. For South Carolina, Sunday is a chance at their fourth title in a decade. For UCLA, it's the first national championship game in program history. One of these things has happened many times before. The other never has.

Men's Championship - Monday, 5:50 Pacific / 8:50 Eastern: UConn (2) vs. Michigan (1)
Michigan has been the most dominant team in this tournament — and it hasn't been close. They blew out Arizona the same way they blew out Tennessee, the same way they've blown out everyone, and Aday Mara — their magnificent center — put on an absolute clinic in the process. UConn has been a different kind of story — grinding, surviving, finding a way — and Braylon Mullins has now hit the dagger three in back-to-back games when his team needed it most. The Huskies are going for their third title in four years, something that hasn't been done since John Wooden's UCLA dynasty. Michigan is going for its first since 1989. Michigan has been playing a different brand of basketball than anyone else in this tournament. But UConn has been written off more times than anyone can count this month, and they just haven't seemed to care.

Ok, folks, that's more than enough out of me. Two more games for all the marbles, and then we're off for the long summer break. But don't worry - you'll be able to come back to famsquares.net anytime to revisit what happened in this tournament event, and our football squares event will be along before you know it. Have a great rest of your holiday weekend (if that's your thing), have an even better summer, and enjoy the games, everyone. This has been a blast. And you better believe we'll be back before you know it. Oh, and don't forget to find me in Oregon this July if you want to get a look at how we make all this magic happen. Believe me, the behind-the-scenes tour is absolutely worth the time.

Best,

Chris
